Cultural Tourism DC is still seeking volunteers for Passport DC  for Saturday, May 17, 2008! This rare opportunity will provide an up-close experience with the embassies in Washington, DC.

May 3 through 17, 2008, Cultural Tourism DC’s Passport DC will open doors to one of Washington’s most distinctive assets – its diplomatic community. From Iraq and Ethiopia to Slovenia and Argentina, the new annual celebration of international culture will showcase Washington’s embassies and cultural organizations with a wide range of performances, talks, and exhibits.

Here’s what you need to know to make the most of your day - transportation, pricing, reservations, and more.

  • EU Open House 2008
    Saturday, May 3
    Experience the diversity and richness of European culture at 26 EU embassies. Look for authentic music, dance, film, and art, along with a rare behind-the-scenes look at the European embassies, many of which are among Washington’s historic and architectural treasures. 

  • Europe Week
    Saturday, May 3  Saturday, May 10
    Enjoy the rhythms of European classical and modern music, admire the performances and voices of European actors and singers, and stroll among some of Europe’s most beautiful paintings.

  • International Children's Festival at Meridian International Center
    Saturday, May 10
    Bring the entire family to this interactive and educational fun-fair that promotes cultural exchange and understanding among children of all ages. Children are introduced to world geography, dress, and traditions through exciting displays and unique hands-on activities.

  • World Week
    Sunday, May 11  Friday, May 16
    Embassies from around the world and Cultural Tourism DC member organizations present programming that highlights world cultures.

  • Around the World Open House
    Saturday, May 17
    Travel the world without leaving the city! 24 embassies from Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas open their doors and offer programming that showcases their authentic culture.

  • Fiesta Asia: National Asian Heritage Festival
    Saturday, May 17
    The National Asian Heritage Festival is bringing back the 3rd Annual Fiesta Asia street festival! Area residents and visitors will have an opportunity to savor the many flavors of Asian culture. From China to India, from Kazakhstan to Indonesia, there is something for everyone!

  • Passport DC Finale with The Embassy Series
    Saturday, May 17
    Beloved duo Violinist Dmitri Berlinsky and Pianist Elena Baksht perform at the Austrian Embassy. The Embassy Series is pleased to present this concert as the grand finale to Passport DC.
