Michael Kahn is the artistic director of the Shakespeare Theatre Company and has held the position since 1986, when the theater company was housed in the Folger Shakespeare Library. Under Kahn’s leadership, the Shakespeare Theatre Company is now celebrating its 25th anniversary, performing works out of its Sidney Harman Hall and Lansburgh Theatre locations in Chinatown.

Cultural Tourism DC asked some notable Washingtonians to share with us their favorite places or events that are special and unique to DC.

1. Jaleo Tapas Bar - Chef José Andrés opened Jaleo next door to STC shortly after we moved to the Lansburgh Theatre. The restaurant has been a DC institution ever since and recently re-opened after some beautiful renovations.
2. E Street Cinema - When not seeing Hollywood blockbusters like “The Hunger Games,” I like exploring lesser-known works by directors and artists who I appreciate and admire.
3. Kramerbooks - It is my duty to keep them in business one book at a time by not buying a Kindle.
4. Absolute Thai Restaurant - This is Chinatown’s best kept secret for Thai food.
5. Spring Mill Bread Co. - I enjoy anything on seven grain crunch, especially the fresh roast turkey and all white chicken salad sandwiches.
