Who better to recommend where to go in DC, but a hotel concierge!
Luis R. Colmenares is the Head Concierge at the historic Hotel Monaco in the Penn Quarter neighborhood downtown DC. He is also the President of the Washington Area Concierge Association. Luis began his hospitality career more than twenty five years ago as a travel agent in his home town of Caracas, Venezuela.  In 2007, he had the honor of being nominated and accepted to the prestigious Les Clef d’Or, USA. Luis loves to meet and chat over cocktails!

Cultural Tourism DC asked some notable Washingtonians to share with us their favorite places or events that are special and unique to DC.

Luis share his top 5.

  1. The Tower at the Old Post Office Pavilion – Its one of the best views of the nation’s capital.
  2. Bishops Garden at the National Cathedral – A serene and quiet place to go for peace of mind after a hectic day.
  3. Lincoln Memorial – You can see the entire mall from the steps. From the Washington Monument to the US Capitol, it’s a great view of “freedom.”
  4. C&O Canal – Always a great relaxing place for jogging, bicycling, and walking.
  5. Lincoln Cottage - A good perspective of how life was right before, during and after the Civil War.
