Angela Franco is the President & CEO of the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GWHCC), a membership based organization that supports the growth of the local business community. Since taking over GWHCC in November 2009, the organization has doubled corporate revenue and tripled membership. At first listen, Angela may sound like any other international Washingtonian, but she was actually born in California while her father was attending Berkeley. Cultural Tourism DC asked some notable Washingtonians to share with us their favorite places or events that are special and unique to DC.

  1. National Zoo – Taking my three year-old son to the Amazonia Habitat exhibit is wonderful. You can really feel the humidity and experience the rainforest. It reminds me of my native Colombia. The art workshops are fun too.
  2. Marrakesh Restaurant – I love going with my husband to Marrakesh restaurant on New York Avenue and sitting in the room in the back – it feels more romantic. I love the belly dancers and the experience of eating with my hands!
  3. Gala Hispanic Theater - The last play I saw was Ana en el Trópico. It is wonderful that the diversity of DC makes it possible to experience award-winning comedy in Spanish.
  4. Constitution Avenue – I love walking along Constitution Avenue when friends and relatives come to town. I love people watching the families, the usual runners and figuring out who is a first time tourist. And discovering something I have not seen at the Smithsonian Museums.
  5. Waterfront in Georgetown – It’s great to go with my girlfriends to watch the boats, the Kennedy Center and have some drinks in the summertime.
