Looking to enjoy a nice fall day in Washington? Break out your comfortable shoes and don’t forget your camera for this City Hop! Start at the National Mall (900 Ohio Drive Southwest) and head towards the Washington Monument to witness the 555-foot structure built to honor the nation’s first President George Washington. With a creative eye behind the camera lens, you’ll see several different points of view of and from this iconic monument.
Head to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial (Madison Dr NW & 15 St NW) to visit the memorial of the civil rights champion who gave his life in the struggle for human rights. It’s only fitting that you will be in short walking distance of the Lincoln Memorial (2 Lincoln Memorial Cir NW) which was the site of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom where Dr. King delivered his famous “I Have A Dream” speech, 49 years ago.
Finish up your tour of memorials to our country’s most influential leaders and head back to the National Mall to hop on the metro at the Smithsonian station. Get off at Foggy Bottom-GWU stop and take the free Kennedy Center Show Shuttle to the John F. Kennedy Center (2700 F Street, NW), another site that pays tribute to one of our nation’s leaders. Indulge your passion for the arts with a full theatrical production, uplifting music in the majestic concert hall or free, Millennium stage event. Looking for a trinket to remember your day of exploration and inspiration? The gift shop will not disappoint!
Want a feast for your eyes as well as your tummy? Grab a bite to eat at the Roof Terrance Restaurant and Bar and be sure to capture the moment with your camera and remember this great afternoon of exploring Washington!
